Traveling around Thailand?
I´m planning on traveling to Thailand in February. I´m a 19 year old girl and I´ll be traveling alone, though I have been traveling around Peru by myself for the last four months. I am looking for recommendations about where to travel and advice on meeting other travelers and going by train. Also, I know things are "cheap" but in american dollars about how much would it cost to travel that way for about 7 weeks. Really any recommendations/advice would be welcome!
Thanks!

4, 5, and 6 years ago when I went there each February for 3 weeks the 4 Star hotels were $8, $9 and $10.00 a day. That is for one day. You cannot criticize the King or Royal Family. They never saw or heard anything about Clinton/Lewinsky etc. Seek out and find the Kosher restaurant – it is open 10-to-10 and will have lots of English speakers. Most people there will speak English. Be very careful traveling alone at night. There is a huge sex industry and slave trade there. All the women are very highly educated. Check different hotel rates and get their numbers for when you go back. You can go to the markets every morning and buy fish and vegetables every day. If you can watch “The King and I” b4 you go. It is still like the movie in a lot of ways. 8>}

This website should give you a good idea what train travel costs within and around Thailand: http://www.seat61.com/Thailand.htm
Trains don’t go everywhere though, buses go just about everywhere and depending on the bus, can be comfortable, air conditioned (many trains are not) and also very inexpensive.

For long distances check out budget airlines like Air Asia, Nok Air and One Two Go. When they have sales and promotions, their prices can be comparable to traveling by bus and get you to your destination in a fraction of the time. Have fun.

Btw, depending on which country you’re from, you may want to check into a 60 day tourist visa before you come. Citizens of many countries are allowed only a 30 day stay, after which you may have to leave and re-enter to stay legally.

Thailand is a wonderful Country with wonderful people and you will always find friendly Western tourists where ever you go .
Normally you only get visa for 30days unless you go to Cambodia border visa run for another 30 days.
Travel is cheap in Thailand – I prefer to fly – use airsia.com for cheap flights.
Thai people prefer to travel by coach – but not comfortable.
try http://www.thailandbytrain.com or http://www.sawadee.com/transfer/
agoda.com very good for cheap accomadation.
Do not know your budget but can give you an idea of places to visit.
Chiang Mai and Bangkok for Culture.
Ao Nang, Krabi and Koh Samui for beaches ( Many others just as good )
Pattaya , 24 Hr Party Capital of Asia.
use tripadvisor for what to see and do and gives very good reviews to.
Food – anything from 150 – 500 baht a day
Water – form a 7/11 store 13 – 20 baht a bottle
Drinks from bars vary from 50 baht to 130baht
Cheap Hotels 300 – 700 Bht a night.
Do your research and make sure you budget well.
If there is anything you would like to know you can always send me a message and I will reply.

Go! stay a few nights on KhaoSarn rd and you will be sure to meet up with some others to go around with. if you watch every penny you can get by on $25 a day, but don’t expect to eat western food or drink much. $50 per day would be pretty comfortable. take $2000 dollars
